Sounds New Wins Destination Canterbury Award

We are delighted to announce that, having been nominated in a number of categories for this year’s Canterbury Culture Awards, Sounds New was chosen by the judges to be the recipient of the Destination Canterbury Award.

This award, presented to an organisation who has raised the profile of the Canterbury region both nationally and internationally, is particularly exciting for Sounds New as it connects with one of our principal aims: to bring music and musicians of an international standard to Canterbury and the surrounding area.

Artistic Director Paul Edlin and Festival Manager Michelle Castelletti (pictured above receiving the award from Abode General Manager Declan Kelly), attended the ceremony and were thrilled by the presentation of the award – given with reference to 2011’s Baltic+ festival which brought ensembles and performers including Arhus Sinfonietta, Cello Octet Amsterdam and Philharmonia Orchestra to the city, as well as esteemed Estonian composer Arvo Pärt.
