Matthew Wright works as a composer and DJ at the edges of concert and club culture, his output stretching from music for Renaissance ensembles to large events combining Djs, classical musicians and digital media. He is a founder member of the electronica trio MTK and has created turntablist backdrops for Dutch-American 'cellist Francis-Marie Uitti, New York sound artist Steven Vitiello and international filmmaker Ference van Damme. He has performed at EMI's Abbey Road studios in association with the PRS Foundation and has worked with The Apollo Saxophone Quartet, The Duke Quartet, Joanna Macgregor, London Flutes and Vamos! (UK), The Maarten Altena ensemble, SOIL and De Ereprijs (Netherlands), and ELISION (Australia). His work has been performed across Europe, broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and in 2001 he wrote the title music for Channel 4 Television's Teenage Kicks series in association with Affirmation studios. He studied with Prof. Richard Steinitz and Dr. Christopher Fox at The University Huddersfield, and with Louis Andriessen, Martijn Padding and Richard Ayres at The Royal Conservatory of The Netherlands. He is currently studying for a PhD in Composition at Goldsmiths College, London with Dr. Roger Redgate, supported by a PRS Foundation Scholarship. Matthew is a full-time lecturer at Canterbury Christ Church University, where he is Programme Director of the Access to Music course and runs the urban music ensemble CONTACT. In 2007 his music was premiered in six countries and his piano work Monsta will soon be published by Boosey and Hawkes. |
